The Big Puzzle: What was the “Word of God” that was being sown in the Parable of the Sower?

In Luke 8:11 Jesus explains that the seed he was sowing out to everyone, (that would bring an abundant crop for some) was the "Word of God."

So, what was this "Word of God" that he was sowing? I doubt that he was passing out those Old Testament scrolls (so it was not the Bible).

Others have told me that the Word is Jesus. But that does not make any sense in this context. And others told me that his "Word" was his teachings. But the people who say that don’t explain what that particular teaching was, so I just assume they don’t know.

Do you know what Jesus was sowing in the Parable of the Sower? He called it the "Word of God" and said that people hear the word of God and "Do It." So what did he want those people "doing" so that they would have an abundant crop?

I have asked similar questions before, but no one has admitted they don’t know… but their answers lead me to think that they don’t know. Is anyone here willing to admit that they don’t know?

Is there a Christian organization like World Vision that allows you to donate more than just money?

I want to sponsor a child in Sri Lanka. I heard of world vision but i looked on their web site and all you can do is send a month to the child. I was wondering if there is another Christian organization that would allow me to donate money, clothes, and toys to the child and maybe even write letters to them once and a while. is there any like that out there?

Why do you think God made some things in the Bible more difficult to understand if He wanted us to “get it”?

I personally think He knows some would read it more and really dig in…if it were more like a puzzle book. If it was too easy of a read, would some people even be interested? Doesn’t it give you a thrill when you FINALLY figure something out that you didn’t know before? It is like digging for gold….lots of hard work but pays off in the end.

Why do believers think the Bible is the “Word of God?” (Jesus used the term long before the Bible came along)?

The New Testament did not even exist when Jesus used the term "Word of God" in the Parable of the Sower (Luke 8:11). So why in the world would believers think that something that did not exist would be included in what Jesus himself called the "Word of God?"

Was he sowing out Bibles?

Just exactly what was Jesus sowing out to all those people that would bring a "bountiful crop." It certainly was not the Bible… and it certainly was not himself if he was the one who was sowing that word.

Was it his message?… and if so, what particular message of his was called the "Word of God?"

This question (puzzle) comes from the Gospel Enigma e-book.

Was the apostle Paul really a scholar as people claim him to be and does his teaching really line up with God?

Matthew 7:16 you shall know them by their fruits, does this scripture gives you a clue. For those who believed that the apostle Paul was a scholar, let’s define scholars first before claiming what Paul was. A Scholar is somebody who has a great deal of knowledge, especially an academic who specializes in a particular arts subject.

No offense, but Paul was no scholar. The man went around causing havoc among God’s people and if he really had as much knowledge as people claim him to have, then he would have known who Jesus was through scripture since the old testament does tell you about the coming of Christ and he wouldn’t have been going around doing the things he did. By the way, Paul teaching comes from the old testament books. So instead of saying he was a scholar tell people the truth, Paul was clueless.
It wasn’t until Paul was baptize that Paul received the Holy Spirit and it was the Holy Spirit that was teaching Paul. So the things Paul knew came from The Holy Spirit, not from Paul being a scholar as the church would like you to believe. If anyone should be called a scholar, it would have to be the disciples since they walked with Christ and was taught by Christ.
And to be able to sit down and write books from their experience, now that is what a true scholars, is. But to say that Paul was a scholar is like putting a little leaguer in with the big league.

We had a nine year old boy who came to the mission to preach one day and the boy had a lot of knowledge. reminded me of the apostle Paul cause he just went from scripture to scripture preaching away but at the end of the service, when the guys went to ask the boy some questions, dealing with the things he taught the boy was clueless.

If Paul was here today, I would have questioned his teaching since a lot of his letters are nothing but a big jigsaw puzzle scrambled around from different scriptures out of the old testament. There are letters that Paul writes that if you sat down (in which I did) and went and found where he says it is either written or scripture, it would have been found in all different part of the old testament. And for those who believe Paul to be all mighty with his teaching, he isn’t. cause there are things that Paul says it is written, which isnt even in the bible. Paul was nothing but a man who sat down with a pen and a pad and picked scripture from the old testament to add to his letters including scriptures of his own belief which is not written as he claim.
Paul may have been choosen by Christ, but Paul was also a liar according to his own letters. since not everything Paul claim to be written is found. anyone can sit down with a piece of paper and pen and write the things Paul wrote. the bible tells us to test the spirit and if you read for yourself the things of Paul, you will know that most of the things Paul wrote are taken out of context, words have been subtracted and added from the scripture he has used.
I believe Paul’s letters are what Paul believed but I would never teach most of the things Paul believes since most of the letters are contradicting and rather it was meant to a certain group of people, why in the world would we teach it to everyone if it was not meant for everyone. If we were to remove Paul’s letters from the bible, I believe it would help us to grow and learn the ways of Jesus and not the ways of Paul.
Paul says he doesn’t allow women to preach, that is not any man call since that is not the way nor the truth. and for a man to tell a woman she can’t preach, is not of God and if its not of God then it shouldn’t be taught. God may have used Paul, but he also used Satan.

Why does God seem to enjoy us when we seek his Word to find?

And this takes a certain amount of studying & effort.

Like Jesus spoke in parables so those who really wanted to understand would press in & ask Him for further explanation. So the bible seems to be a puzzle to put together & there are always more puzzle pieces to fit together.

1b. Why does it seem that God likes us to try to figure things out by asking Him questions in prayer, searching His word and being still & listening?
Bibigirl, The reason why there are a bible code, is because the old Hebrew just had constenants. So you could find many words because of that.
I believe there are bible codes in the bible, but not to the extent some like to teach.
Like if you read the lineage by the definition of the names, you have another prophecy of the promised of the Savior.
Mia, I asked God those too. I believe Jesus is YHVH (Jehovah) on that visit to Abraham.

Christians, How is it that you believe the Holy Bible is True? And you can trust the bible as Gods Word?

For me, I can do a word search & put all the pieced together & the puzzle pieces form a clear picture. Of course I need the Holy Spirit to help me. This is one way the bible proves true to me.

The puzzle pieces always fit.

Dinosaurs in the Bible?

When I was about 8 years old, I picked up a Children’s Bible and started reading it from the beginning. I never got all the way to the end. But the thing that really puzzled me at that age was dinosaurs.

From what I could recall, the world began with Adam & Eve. There was no mention of dinosaurs living thousands of years before that. (Unless I missed it.)

So when I was learning about dinosaurs in school, I kept telling the teacher that I didn’t believe in them because they weren’t in the Bible.

Now, I am not here to dispute science or their existence… nor to refute anyone’s faith.

What I am curious about is….

1. Did you have any conflicting thoughts as a kid between science and the Bible?

2. And how have dinosaurs been explained in the Christian world where there is clearly a conflict of information?

Just something I have pondered…

(..and again, I am not looking for proof that dinosaurs did exist… I already know about all that now that I am older
The part that clashed for me at that age is that I was thinking that Adam & Eve were the first living creatures. And that if they were the first… how could it be possible that dinosaurs had come and gone before them.

It’s not a question over what name they had, if the word dinosaur was around back then, or any of that.

I found my own resolution as a teen when someone told me that the length of "days" in the bible were similar to thousands of years to us.

But the actual question was what ideas did you have as a kid… and what were you taught about the conflict of Dinosaurs.
I actually never knew that many people had differing opinions on the subject… or that it was sometimes a heated subject.
I guess my Children’s Bible was still too hard of a read at 8 years old. LOL. I was a pretty advanced reader… but still not adult level back then.

And admittedly, I never really went back to read it over later.
