Bible is out of order?
Does anyone else know that the Bible was written out of order and then put together like a puzzle???
My youth pastor told me this last week and I was like "WHAT?!"
Since then, I’ve been researching what order the books were originally written. I can’t find anything.
Was he kidding or is it true?
The ordering in both the Old and New Testaments is by type or classification rather than chronology.
History books, wisdom or poetic literature, prophecies, more history, letters from Paul, letters from others, and more prophecy.
Most "Study Bibles" include a discussion on date in their introduction of each book.
If you ask Biblical scholars which New Testament book was written first, you will probably get the same answers repeatedly, James, Galatians, or Mark will probably top most peoples’ lists. Since we don’t have signed and dated originals, we are left to other methods in deciding which books were written earlier or later.
Paul’s letters often include mentions of the place he was writing from and/or people who were with him. In some cases, this allows us to use the history recorded in Acts to "pinpoint" the apparent time of writing. In other cases, we aren’t real sure.
Among the synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, it is almost universally agreed that Luke was written LAST, but there are significant differences of opinion when it comes to which was first. Most agree that John was written much later, probably near the end of the first century.
James has a few internal clues which make it seem to have been written very early. For instance, he calls the Christian assembly a "synagogue" rather than "church." This indicates he had a predominantly Jewish audience, putting it in the earliest years of Christianity.
The bible was written in series of chapters by many others. The omitted some and arranged others so hes kind of right, but hes wrong because the bible is just literature
He is correct.
The NT was comiled over hundreds of years and wasn’t even "complete" until the Middle Ages. This is why Luther pulled out seven of those books because they were still argueing over the validity of them even though they were cannonized.
The OT is also only five books of the Torah. Not the complete book and it has changed some of the stories.
The Bible was written by many different authors.
Such as Mosses, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, etc.
It is a collection of books.
its not in chronilogical order thats true….ISA 14 has the war with satan which came before Genesis….footnote Bibles are fantastic….they help out alot…
And after grade 10 of any educated person they realize the same as you.
Man made, Jesus not there to sign off.
your pastor needs help.
Your pastor is somewhat correct. The Christian bible is arranged chronologically. The Jewish bible is arranged by category. The link below shows how ours is arranged.
Also there are other Christian canons that include the deuterocanonical books that may be in a different order than the Protestant bible.
Yeah, there are a LOT of contradictions in it too.
The Holy Spirit inspired the writers, as well as the compilers.
The result is the world’s greatest book, of all time.
Why would anyone have a problem with that?
I have read a commentary that Job ought to be considered a much earlier book than it is.
Just some interesting reading…http://ldolphin.org/iceage.html
The books are not in the Bible in the order in which they were written, but are organized in groups. For example, the Old Testament has the histories (Genesis thru Chronicles), the poetic books (Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Solomon and Ecclesiastes) and finally the major and minor prophets. The New Testament is also arranged in organized groupings.
Now each book of the Bible was written by the author as it appears in the Bible. Unlike the Quran, the Islamic book, which was a random collection of the sayings of their prophet, Mohammed, gathered together by his followers after his death.
This is a good question. Read Chapter One of any decent introductory book on the Bible to learn how the Bible came to be and why it is organized in the manner it is. Each chapter of a good Bible commentary generally outlines who experts think the author was, when it was written, to whom was it written for and why, etc. You will also note that there are different translations of the Bible in which there are slight variations in words and phrases. Remember, the Old Testament is primarily a book originally written in Hebrew, translated to Greek, and then translated into other languages of the world. The New Testament was written primarily in Greek.
