A Gospel Enigma: John 1:1 says "the Word was God," so is the Bible your God?
It is common for ministers to say that the Bible is the Word of God, and John 1:1 says: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
So, the conclusion would be that the Bible is their God.
To make the puzzle even more interesting is the fact that Jesus himself was speaking about the Word of God in the Parable of the Sower, long before the New Testatment came along (and I doubt that he was sowing the Old Testament out to the people either)
I think the Word of God is something other than the Bible… something much more profound than 1500 pages of reading. So what do you think? Is the Bible the Word of God that Jesus was speakng about in the Parable of the Sower… and the Word which is found in John 1:1?
Or is the phrase "Word of God" just being used to elevate the status of people like Paul/Saul, who in fact was rather active in terrorizing the Original disciples (Acts 7:58-8:3).
Question from http://gospelenigma.com (Ch. 6)
All is one, one is all.
You should really do some research on what "logos" meant to the Jews and the Greeks before you post such a question.
oh god, not god again……
The Word refers to Jesus, and a different the "word" refers to the bible.
If science is your God. Why can’t the Bible be my God?
The "word" was God and the "word" was with God. In this case, the "word" is Jesus Christ himself, who was the Word of God. By testifying the word of God, Jesus BECAME the Word.
The ‘word’ spoken of in John chapter 1 is referring to Jesus .
no
If that is what you are learning, you are being taught all wrong. The Word is Logos. In the Greek culture, they believed that all of creation was created via "the Word", that is, the Logos. John used this understanding to identify the Logos as being Jesus Christ. As you can see from the text, it notes that "All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made". This is the core of the Logos philosophy of the time.
It also says that "…the Word became flesh and dwelt among us". In other words, the Creator of the heavens and the earth became flesh. That is why the Word was both "with God" and "was God". Jesus was God come in the flesh.
1 Timothy 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.
The Jews made a similar mistake, only they thought their salvation was tied to the scriptures. Jesus revealed the true source of salvation.
John 5:39
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.
The Word is Jesus. If you continue reading in the same chapter, you’ll see that is says "the Word became flesh" refering to when God became man in the form of Jesus.
The Bible is the word of God but it is not God because people don’t worship a Bible or pray to it but they do read it and worship God…..Am I right?
"In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God."
It’s speaking of Jesus. He is the Word. The entire bible is centered around the salvation of the Jew first, then the Gentile.
Your ignorance is surpassed only by your enthusiasm to share it with others.
You can replace" word" with "thought".
The verses you site tell us there is no separation of God and His Word. The Bible in the original languages was given to the scribe by the Holy Spirit (God breathed). It was this that was written that was with God in the beginning later to be written down. Also keep reading in John and you will see where the Word became flesh: Jesus Christ.
John 1:14 says that the Word became flesh and lived among us and we had a view of his glory
Jesus is the word the scriptures are reffering to.
John 1:1 the word was with God
Jesus spoke the word of god about the old Testament. He preached the bible, gods word to the masses. He added his own word that became the new testament. He was a jew therefore he spoke about his father. Whats with the terrorizing and their god reference? Are you non-christian?
The Bible is God’s word given to us by prophets it’s used to lead us to salvation. In John The Word was God it’s talking about Jesus. Jesus was the living word of God born on earth to pay for the world’s sins. No man could live by the Law perfectly the only one who could was Jesus and Jesus is God. Since no man could live a sinless life and get into heaven on their own Jesus died for the sins of the world. It also proves you cannot get into Heaven by works, its by grace and mercy that we are saved.God the Father,God the son(Jesus)and God the Holy Spirit are one and separate at the same time.
You don’t get it, do you? Or you are being obtuse on purpose.
The Bible is the revealed word of God. Or "God’s Word".
The Bible is not a ‘god’, nor is IT something to be worshiped. The Bible is what God speaks to us. What he tells us about Himself.
The Old Testament is filled with prophecy after prophecy regarding the Messiah. It pointed to the Messiah and the Law pointed out to us our NEED for a savior, since we can’t save ourselves.
The New Testament is the Word of God, same as the Old Testament, except in the New Testament, the Gospel (or Good News) tells us of the New Covenant in Christ. Not a covenant like the Old Testament where you had to faithfully obey the 10 Commandments (and NEVER ever measure up and still die) but to the New Covenant where all we need do is believe and accept Christ’s sacrifice for our sins. God accepted it, so why don’t we?
The Word of God refers to both the Old Testament and the New Testament. We Catholics and I am sure, that the Protestants as well, believe that the Bible is the living word of God. We believe that the Bible is alive.
Why do I bother cast pearls before swine? You cannot understand because many of you are full of another being.
In John 5, Jesus said the written word of scripture points to him.I wrote a song about God the Word who became a man named Jesus:
Above us is the speaking God
God the Word surrounds us
Within us is the Spirit of life
The Father speaks
The Son is spoken
The Holy Spirit brings the Word
Mary listened to the Father
And she gave birth to the Word
As the Holy Spirit made her
Mother of the Lord.
Jesus is the word the bible is talking about. In the beginning was Jesus, and the Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God.
The Word of God is Jesus Christ, Second Person of the Divine Trinity, true God and true Man. He is my God.
The word of God is greater than the mere written word of God.
We receive revelation from the Holy Spirit but it does not disagree with God’s word.
The Bible is a tool which God uses to communicate ot his people he also uses the Holy Spirit.
His truth is greater than the written word.
We do not worship the Bible it is a tool that God uses as he uses prophets and the Holy Spirit.
None of which will disagree with God’s written word.
